Justin F. Averna, DO, is a board-certified physician in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine at Seva Healthcare. Fellowship-trained in Interventional Pain Medicine, he is dedicated to restoring function, reducing pain, and helping patients live their fullest lives through comprehensive, individualized care.

Dr. Averna’s passion for pain medicine is deeply personal. After undergoing his first spine surgery at 17, followed by two additional procedures, he gained firsthand insight into living with chronic pain and navigating the healthcare system. These experiences shaped his empathetic, patient-first approach and commitment to ensuring every patient feels heard, understood, and empowered.

He spends meaningful time educating patients about their spine and musculoskeletal conditions, reviewing imaging together, and developing tailored treatment plans rather than one-size-fits-all solutions. His goal is to help patients take ownership of their health while achieving lasting improvements in comfort and function.



Originally from Albuquerque, Dr. Averna completed much of his medical training in Philadelphia before returning to New Mexico in 2016 with his wife to raise their three children. Outside of medicine, he enjoys music, the outdoors, family time, and learning about automobiles.
